Details of the offer

Tauranga City
Permanent position - 20 hours per week, worked primarily Monday to Friday.

Tauranga City Libraries are part of the Tauranga City Council Community Services department. We aim to meet the changing information, recreation and learning needs of the community, and to grow the utilisation of the library collections. We have recently adopted a new model of working that would ensure the Library service meets the demands of a growing and changing community.

As a result of this, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative person to join our Programmes and Partnerships team. The Community Programme Specialist position is a newly created position, which will work with Tauranga community organisations, council departments, national organisations and library team members to plan and facilitate a wide range of community events. The purpose of this position is to facilitate the provision of opportunities for learning, knowledge sharing, skill building and social interaction through programmes and events, delivered in collaboration with community partners. A particular focus will be on designing and facilitating the delivery of programmes and events that promote the value of reading, libraries, literacy and social connection across the community.

This role will provide the successful applicant with an engaging and varied work schedule, from working with the business community to the rough-sleeping community, cultural community support organisations to the socially-isolated aging community and a gamut of other communities in between.
Key Responsibilities Include:

Work with community organisations and groups to identify and implement opportunities for community led and/or funded programmes to be provided through

community library hubs
Proactively review programme design and delivery to ensure services are fit for purpose, and to identify issues and seize new opportunities
Undertake the design and delivery of library events to promote the utilisation of library services and programmes
Activate library spaces through engaging programmes, events, exhibitions and performances
Develop and leverage relationships and networks with key stakeholders, providers and other organisations to deliver programmes and events that are relevant for

the community
Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, such as the Community Development team, to ensure alignment of programmes and events with

other council initiatives and business plans

For this role you will have:

Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Diploma in teaching, Event management, Social work or equivalent experience)
Strong and proven experience in programme and/or event development and management
Strong and proven experience in developing, maintaining and leveraging community and stakeholder relationships
Understanding of te reo and tikanga Maori
Knowledge of different learning styles
Experience working with a diverse range of community groups
Knowledge of libraries as a community hub
Proven skills in, and commitment to, the provision of customer focused services
An outgoing nature and sense of humour

If you are passionate about libraries, communities, and believe everyone has something to contribute to our Tauranga Moana community, then contact us.
The position is predominantly Monday to Friday 20 hours per week, however there will be the requirement to work flexibly to deliver programs across 7 days as required.

Tauranga City Council is committed to the protection and wellbeing of children in the community. A key part of this role involves working with children so, as part of our assessment of candidates, we conduct Police Vetting prior to employment to ensure we continue to provide a safe environment. This requirement complies with the Vulnerable Children's Act 2014 and you can find out more about our safety process check here
Applications close Sunday, 18th February 2019.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
