Job Description

Are you confident in spreading key mental health promotion messages to a wide variety of people and communities?
If this sounds like you, we need you here at the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) in one of two new team lead roles in our Community Engagement and Health Promotion team. You’ll be responsible for leading several suicide prevention resources for Maori, as well as working with the Community Engagement/Health Promotion Manager to support your team to complete their own suicide prevention projects. These resources will be communicating key messages to a variety of audiences such as Maori and Pacific communities, rangatahi, takatapui, suicide bereaved and those experiencing mental distress. A key part of the role will be developing and maintaining relationships with these groups, as well as with government agencies and the NGO sector. You’ll be managing and delivering projects with multiple priorities, while also supporting your team to manage theirs. To do this well you will need to collaborate closely with MHF’s Communications and Marketing team and ensure all MHF teams feel connected to our community engagement/health promotion work, so you’ll need to be an excellent communicator who likes meeting deadlines and thrives on working in a team.
To be successful in this role you will:
Have over 5 years’ experience working with Maori communities, and have an in-depth understanding of Te Ao Maori
Be able to work with a range of Maori leaders to ensure our resources are reflective of community insights
Be able to apply health promotion frameworks and processes
Ideally have leadership experience
Ideally hold experience in suicide prevention
Be experienced in the process of resource development
Value collaborative approaches and achieving shared outcomes.
Strong time management and communication skills
Strong relationship management skills
Excellent oral and written presentation skills
Demonstrate an understanding of how to support team wellbeing
Have great planning and budgeting skills
Understands why some groups are disproportionately impacted by negative mental health.

The salary will be commensurate to the successful candidate’s skills and experience for the role.
