What we are looking for:

Due tointernal promotion, we are looking for a Communications Specialist to help Xero deliver on its purpose and vision in the New Zealand market and will create, develop and execute communications to engage and build trust with stakeholders, as well as empower and protect the brand. This role requires close collaboration with the NZ Head of Communications, Marketing NZ team and Global Communications team, Xero customers and event management groups to deliver desired outcomes.

This role will require a hunger for good storytelling and an understanding of both traditional and social media channels. Working alongside the PR agency to determine media engagement, developing relationships with key media along with developing stories and pitching will be crucial to success. Using online news and social web tracking services, this role will also require analysis of Xero’s market mentions, terminology, and global emerging topics across small business and technology.

What you’ll do:

• Build relationships with key media and pitch stories that position Xero favourably.
• Engage with and manage the PR agency relationship (under direction of Head of Communications, NZ)
• Support and drive profiles of key Xero leaders through a proactive byline program.
• Coordinate program of op-eds and LinkedIn posts for NZ Managing Director
• Develop a cadence of news stories, bylines, blogs, news features and case studies to help Xero tell its story.
• Write, edit and proof written materials for different channels including media releases and thought leadership focused pieces.
• Manage logistics for small-scale marketing/communications led events with increasing responsibility as experience builds to full management of events.
• Provide administrative support to ensure efficient transactions with suppliers to the communications function (eg raising POs, processing invoices).

What you’ll bring:

• BA/BS in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Marketing preferred
• Experience in communications, journalism or copywriting
• Journalist or newsroom experience highly desirable
• Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with general management, marketing colleagues, vendors, partners, customers, media and members of the public sector and business community
• Brings a high level of energy, resilience, creativity, sense of humour and team spirit.
