The Department of Conservation is an exciting and ever rewarding organisation to work for. Our vision, shared with others, is that New Zealand is ‘the greatest living space on Earth'. We all work together each day to increase the value of conservation, contributing to the economic, social and cultural success of Aotearoa.
The Pricing and Economics unit was established as a separate Unit earlier this year to drive improved conservation outcomes and to address the need to drive greater revenue from those who benefit from the use of conservation assets. By bringing together this expertise it is expected you will be at the forefront of shaping the organisations thinking around new approaches for managing places in the future.
About you
This appointment requires a dynamic and influential leader who can demonstrate significant experience and capability in economic thinking and commercial realism, preferably in the tourism sector. You will be a highly skilled negotiator with exceptional communication skills enabling you to work productively with a diverse range of stakeholders. We are seeking an experienced people leader who is skilled at inspiring, motivating and maximising the expertise of their team.

A broad understanding of conservation management
An ability to shape new thinking, establish frameworks and influence outcomes in a changing environmental and economic context

Why work for us?
This is a rare opportunity to take advantage of your economics expertise to make highly valuable contributions to New Zealand conservation. As a unit we are working co-operatively towards achieving ambitious goals for the department, this is your chance to be apart of that. You will be leading a supportive and collaborative team undergoing an exciting period of growth. Therefore, you will have the opportunity to make this team your own and support their ongoing development.
