Grit Engineering is a growing Engineering and Asset Management company based mainly at Marsden Point, Northland, in the oil and gas industry.
We are currently seeking a NACE CIP2 (or equivalent) Coating Inspector to join our highly skilled team.
The position is primarily carrying out QC inspections of industrial coating projects including thermal metal spray, equipment/tank linings, structural steel and concrete, pressure equipment linings, CUI coatings, fireproofing etc. Responsibilities include the reporting of results, non-conformances and communicating with both clients and coating contractors. You must be a practical, “hands on” team member, able to manage a high pressure environment.
Secondary roles include: Coating condition reports, project scopes and specifications.
The role will be primarily on a large industrial site, with a large variety of maintenance projects. You will be working closely with a very high performing multi-disciplined team of engineers, inspectors and contractors.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes to succeed in this position:
• NACE CIP or equivalent (Level 2 min)
• Minimum 3 years full time in industrial coatings industry and 1 year as an inspector
• Currently residing in NZ and able to legally work here
• Great communication skills including written communication, report writing and computer skills.
• Excellent verbal and written English
• Must have own vehicle
• No criminal record
• A clean driver’s licence.
Additional skills/qualifications considered valuable
• IRATA rope access qualified (the higher the better),
• Weld inspection certification
• Any civil/structural engineering qualifications
• Offshore safety training
• Working at heights training
• Confined space training
Hours are likely to average between 32 and 45hrs per week depending on your skill set, qualifications, and adaptability.
Primarily based in the Whangarei/Ruakaka area, travel to other regions throughout the North Island may also be required from time to time.
