Role: CNC OperatorLocation: Nelson, BCReports To: Technical DirectorDirect Reports: N/ARole Status: Full-time, PermanentFLSA Status: Non-ExemptPosting Date: May 5, 2025Posting Close Date: May 19, 2025Date of Last Review: May 2025Role OverviewThe CNC Operator operates various machines including the TechnoWood, K2, and Biesse with strict adherence to quality standards, SOPs, and production schedules.
This role interprets technical drawings and documentation, selects appropriate tools, programs machines, and meticulously loads and processes elements according to predetermined strategies.
The operator demonstrates proficiency in machine-specific software interfaces including Lignocam for the TechnoWood, BVN for the K2, and Biesseworks for the Biesse.
Regular maintenance activities such as recalibration, troubleshooting operational issues, and routine upkeep tasks are conducted to ensure optimal machine performance.
Additional duties include performing quality checks, effectively managing dust and waste, and maintaining a meticulously organized and safe working environment.
The CNC Operator possesses a strong mechanical aptitude, experience with wood, metal, or composite material fabrication, and work efficiently in a production environment while meeting deadlines.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCNC Operation and MaintenanceOperate the TechnoWood, K2, and Biesse machines with guidance from the Technical DirectorAdhere to quality standards, SOPs, and production schedulesInterpret technical drawings and documentation to ensure the correct setup and to meet production requirementsLoad and process elements according to predetermined strategiesPerform quality control checks to verify project-specific tolerancesDocument and communicate miscuts and/or missing machiningTrack machining time, as directedManage dust and waste for workspace efficiencyConduct regular equipment maintenance and recalibrationMaintain an organized and safe working environment with strict adherence to OHS standardsCNC Programming / Design ConsultingProvide strategic input on machining strategies, positioning, and clampingHandle basic programming tasks at the machine levelVerify program simulations for personnel and machine safetyDiagnose and correct program errors at the machineCollaborate on defining machining strategies and tolerancesOther Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupport the Fabrication team with various tasks including material allocation, preparation, and packaging, as requiredWork with Technical Director to develop and communicate effective SOPsProvide training to CNC apprentices and junior operators, as neededContribute to optimizing efficiency between machining, design, and fabricationShare expertise when discussing project-specific machining strategiesParticipate in meetings, as requiredQualifications, Knowledge, Skills, AttributesPost-secondary education in a relevant field, or equivalent experienceExperience in CNC operation, programming, and maintenanceExcellent organizational and time management abilitiesAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentDetail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality results in an efficient mannerSchedule and Working ConditionsAbility to work 7:30-5:15, Monday – Thursday, with a 15-minute paid coffee break and a 30-minute unpaid lunch each day, and every second Friday from 7:30-4:00, with a 15-minute paid coffee break and a 30-minute unpaid lunch each dayAbility to work on-site at Spearhead headquartersManual dexterity to operate machines and hand tools on a regular basisAbility to stand and move around the fabrication shop for work shiftsAbility to work in a workshop with exposure to dust, chemicals, and noise using required PPE, as neededAbility to move and carry materials up to 50 lbs on a regular basisCompensationPay range estimate is CAD$28.00 – $38.00 per hour commensurate with experience and qualificationsExtended Health and Dental benefitsTotal compensation details will be discussed further with top candidates during a personal interview.Statement of InclusionSpearhead is committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
