About the Southern DHB
We are responsible for planning, funding and providing health and disability services to a population of over 315,000 located South of the Waitaki River. Our catchment area encompasses Invercargill City, Queenstown - Lakes District, Gore, rural Southland, Clutha, Central Otago, Maniototo, Waitaki District and Dunedin City.
The Southern DHB covers New Zealand's largest geographical area, at the southern end of the South Island, and we're looking for registered Clinical Psychologists with experience in the field of Mental Health to join us working within our multi-disciplinary teams to provide mental health support for either adults or children and adolescents.
The team / role
The team environment, with ready access to other mental health professionals, means that you truly can put the patient and their needs at the centre of everything you do. You'll work closely with patients, their families, and other members of the team to provide assessments and treatment plans that support their recovery. You will be experienced in mental health and able to deliver comprehensive assessments, formulation, treatment and psychotherapy to people experiencing moderate to severe mental illness.
You'll also appreciate the autonomy and flexibility to manage your own day-to-day workload. There's plenty of scope to bring your ideas and be involved in pilot programmes, so if you want to make things happen, this is the place to be!

The location
If you base yourself in Balclutha, you'll be right at the centre of everything rural New Zealand has to offer. Some of the South Island's best landscape is right here - scenic reserves, forests, and fishing. You'll get all the best things about a small town, things like convenience, minimal traffic, affordable housing, and friendly locals, but the same sporting and cultural activities you'd find anywhere else.
And life is just as kind in Invercargill. If it's the city life you crave, you'll find it here - and still have money in your pocket. Like Balclutha, you'll find affordable housing, there are great schools for all levels, and the stressful long commute to work will be history. There's even parking on-site at the hospital.
In Oamaru, there are benefits of being between both Canterbury and Otago so you can enjoy the great community right on your doorstep. Being the largest town in the Waitaki District and home to Steampunk HQ, it has a rich history and proud heritage. The beautiful Victorian Precinct attracts locals and tourist alike, with a lively atmosphere you will find, shops, galleries and traditional crafts set in Victorian streetscapes and 19th century architecture.
Across the district you'll have easy access to lakes and the sea, and in the winter some of the country's best ski fields are an easy drive away. It might be a long way from the rush of Auckland, but this is real New Zealand, where you'll experience life like a true local.
