Details of the offer

The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. We serve the four Northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and four prisons.
We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services which connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Maori, court liaison and prison mental health services. This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland.
Our vision, mission and values are inclusive, founded on a therapeutic commitment to service users, their family and the community. We are committed to both process, and outcome quality, best evidence based practice, a management environment that is respectful of all staff and an ongoing learning environment.
Our inpatient services consist of seven forensic mental health inpatient units and an intellectual disability unit that assess, treat and assist in the recovery of people with mental illness or intellectual disability(ID) who have committed a criminal offence or are at high risk in the community.
The introduction of the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act 2003 has created innovative and challenging roles for health professionals in meeting the statutory and care needs of offenders with intellectual disabilities.
The Forensic ID Secure Services which is a subspecialty service within Mason Clinic, is recruiting a full-time Clinical Psychologist for the provision of high quality care and rehabilitation to adults with intellectually disabilities who come into contact with the criminal justice system. This position is with the Intellectual Disability Offender Liaison Service,(IDOLS) a community based consult/liaison service working with care recipients and those who come under the high and complex framework residing in regional ID secure accommodation services(RIDSAS) in the community.
You will provide a range of psychological assessments and interventions on intellectually disabled offenders, as well as provide consultation, supervision and training to other Mason Clinic staff and may be involved in the design, delivery and evaluation of group based treatment programmes. Although working for the ID Unit specialty there may also be a requirement from time to time to work in other parts of the Forensic Service.
This is an exciting and challenging role which will develop and hone your clinical skills in the areas of forensic psychology, mental health, intellectual disabilities and neuropsychology. Training and support are key priorities in developing our workforce.
We are interested in hearing from registered Clinical Psychologists who are keen and motivated to practice in a new subspecialty area.
Experience in intellectual disabilities and forensic and/or mental health are desirable.
If you are ready to further develop your specialist skills or build on your clinical experience so far, we would be very interested in speaking with you.
