About the role
The role of a Contact Supervisor is to provide supervision during a contact visit between a child and their visiting parent or other family member, ensuring a physically, psychologically and emotionally safe environment for the child during the contact visit.
Our Supervised Contact services operate on Saturdays and Sundays at our centres in Mangere and Waitakere. This is a casual role, with variable working hours between 4 and 8 hours (at times can be more) during a weekend – one or both days. Flexibility to work in both centres and on both weekend days would be desirable.
You will be working alongside our Coordinators and other supervisors and full training will be provided.
Key responsibilities
Responsible for children’s safety during the contact visit;
Preparation of the session – briefings completed, risk assessment, set up of environment including appropriate toys and activities;
Appropriate interaction between parent and child is facilitated and is monitored vigilantly;
Participate in debriefing at the end of each contact session and participate in any incident reporting and investigation processes as required;
Ensure that all relevant documentation is completed for each contact visit;
Skills and experience
No pre-requisite formal qualification necessary – full training will be given;
This role is well suited to highly resilient individuals who have ability to deal positively with conflicts, remain calm in stressful situations, are mature and have life experience;
Previous experience of working with children (0-14 years);
Knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts such as child development, attachment theory, dynamics of family violence is desirable;
A current First Aid Certificate or a willingness to obtain one
