This position will be assisting in a development programme to build a pilot plant, followed by a large-scale plant for the manufacture of reagents used in the Greyscan Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) device. The project requires a skilled engineer to contribute to the ongoing manufacture of reagents used in this device and scale up mixing to a large scale manufacturing plant. It will include the assembly, commissioning and operation of a pilot plant.

GreyScan is a proud manufacturer of high precision explosive detection units based in Port Melbourne. Inorganic compounds are being increasingly used to fabricate home-made explosive devices, due to ease of their acquisition and lack of availability of military explosives.
Developed in partnership with an Australian university, the GreyScan Team have developed the worlds first automated and portable ETD device for the detection of homemade inorganic explosives.
With consistent delivery of a high number of this highly specialised product to market, the business is securing an increasing number of orders from clients within the government, aviation, security & safety space internationally.

Description
The successful candidate will be assisting in a development programme to build a pilot plant, followed by a large-scale plant for the manufacture of reagents used in the Greyscan Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) device.
The role will include the assembly, commissioning and operation of a pilot plant. During the setup the engineer will be involved in:

Assembling and operating a laboratory reagent reactor.
Developing and documenting processes used in the manufacturing pilot plant.
The generation and development of P&ID and protocols for high-volume high-quality reagent manufacture.
Developing and executing test and acceptance criteria for reagents.
Developing and implementing new processes to improve quality and lower manufacturing costs.
Pilot reagent manufacturing reactor/plant i.e. scaling reagent from lab to small semi-automated manufacturing scale.
Assess equipment requirements, requirement specifications and define overall strategy and objectives of the project.
Design work to establish accurate cost estimate/budget costings for total execution of project (may include process block diagram).
Ability to detail engineering design, prepare drawings for construction or alternatively investigate an off the shelf solution.
Commissioning, optimisation of constructed reactor/plant and OHS&E considerations.
Profile
To be considered for this role you must satisfy the following:

Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (Hons preferred).
A working knowledge of mechanical or laboratory test methods especially with polymers or reagents.
Detailed process engineering design work in a relevant industry e.g. manufacturing, mining & metals, forestry, pulp & paper, waste water, biofuels sector.
Strong interpersonal skills and a well-developed sense of teamwork.
Proven experience in setting up and running experiments. A methodical approach to problem solving, quality control and documenting procedures.
Strong skills in data analysis and the ability to prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations.
Strong hands on approach and not afraid to roll up sleeves when it comes to getting projects delivered on time.
Development and implementation of a prototype/ system in a relevant industry i.e. design, sizing, custom building and implementation phase.
Ability to identify potential complications in scaling to manufacturing scale.
This is an ideal role for a self-motivated person, focused on achieving goals with a can-do attitude. A high level of interpersonal and communication skills is required, with the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas.
