We have a vacancy for a motivated chef to run our in-house cafeteria located at AFFCO New Zealand in Horotiu (just north of Hamilton). AFFCO is one of New Zealand’s leading meat processing companies, and this site caters for up to 350 production workers and head office staff.
You will be a hands-on chef actively involved in the creating, cooking, and presentation of all food, as well as the day-to-day running of the cafeteria. With the support of up to 2 catering assistants, you will be responsible for making our customers smile and keeping them coming back for more. Our clientele at this site enjoy their cooked breakfasts, hot meals of the day, and cabinet food, and being an Halal site - it is a pork free zone.
This position requires a chef with a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience, who can:
- Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of cuisine
- Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Create menus to cater for a varied clientele and dietary requirements
- Manage food and labour costs within budget
- Discuss food preparation issues with managers and kitchen staff
- Implement New Zealand Food Control and Safety regulations
- Maintain a clean, tidy, safe and hazard free environment.
- Demonstrate great communication skills and moderate computer literacy
- Show a flexible, can-do, committed attitude
This is a full-time permanent position but requires someone who is flexible in their hours worked as these will fluctuate to accommodate the various shifts and seasonal peaks and troughs of the production plant which operates around farming seasons (including a full shutdown during the month of September). You will need to be resilient and comfortable working within the unique environment of a meat processing plant.
