The Role

:James Cook High School is a secondary school in South Auckland with a current roll of over 1200 students. We are looking to appoint a new Business Manager. This is a full-time role, that commences at the start of Term 3, 2020 or by negotiation. The Business Manager reports to the Principaland is a member of the school?s Senior Leadership Team (SLT).The Business Manager also works very closely with the Finance and Property Committee of the Board of Trustees.
The Business Manager provides the Principal with managerial support for the sound day to day administration of the school and the strategic management and leadership of areas of the school, enabling the achievement of the goals set out in the School?s strategic and annual plans.
The role carries with it a number of key Accountabilities in managing the School?s financial, property, human resources and administration services (including payroll).
In conjunction with the Ministry of Education James Cook High School is embarking on a building development plan to replace existing buildings no longer fit for purpose and also to take account of predicted roll growth to 2200 students over the next five years. Therefore, we are seeking someone with excellent leadership skills, vision and initiative possibly with building project management experience who will play a major part in the building development process.
The person will have overall responsibility for the School?s finances but not on a day to day basis and a large part of the role is the ensuring that Human Resource requirements are met. This includes the recruitment and selection of support staff, support staff performance review, Police vetting, and assisting the SLT in the recruitment of teaching staff, ensuring all documentation is accurate and completed on a timely basis. Excellent written and spoken communication skills are essential as is attention to detail.
Your key areas of responsibility will include:
Property Services are managed including close liaison with the MOE in the planning and monitoring of major building projects; ensuring the 10 year maintenance plan is in place and updated annually; ensuring the School?s facilities are of a high standard, property contracts are reviewed regularly and competitive quotes are gained;
Human Resources requirements are met including the recruitment and management of support staff and assistance with the appointment of teaching staff;
Payroll services are managed including close attention to staff banking;
To provide financial and administrative services to the Principal and Board of Trustees including preparation of monthly financial and staffing reports;
To manage the School?s finances including preparation of annual budgets, ensuring financial policies and procedures are adhered to, income is maximized and expenditure both operating and capital is closely monitored;
Administrative Services are provided and managed ensuring that School routines, procedures and systems are operating efficiently;
Health & Safety Requirements are met.
Essential requirements
Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or resident or have a valid work visa.
Applicants must have no criminal convictions in New Zealand or overseas and any offer of employment is subject to a satisfactory Safety Check / Working with Children (WWC) Check under the Children?s Act 2014.
