Biodynamic Horticulturalist And Orchardist

The Role

Millbrook Resort's landscape is iconic, the peaceful setting allows people to ‘escape the everyday,' as they enter the resort. We have recently developed a biodynamic sustainable garden to complement our four restaurants and grow our own sustainable produce to supply the kitchens. The garden also includes a chicken run, therefore, knowledge of looking after chickens would be an advantage, however, not essential. We are seeking a horticulturalist/orchardist who has a good all-round knowledge of the sustainable organic fruit and vegetable production, care and maintenance including hothouse work. This is a key position, and the successful candidate will need to have strong focus on biodynamic practices and being part of a collaborative team, coupled with a ‘can do' attitude. We are looking for an individual who loves working outdoors in all weather conditions. This includes engaging with guests on sustainable garden tours and answering questions relating to biodynamic gardening, harvest and processing produce for the restaurants.
Success Profile
Minimum of three years proven experience working in organic/biodynamic orchards and vegetable crop production.
Relevant horticulture qualification.
Proven experience of biodynamic greenhouse management to produce high value vegetable crops.
Proven experience in propagation techniques for various crops.
Proven experience of mindful organic soil cultivation techniques.
Experience of crop planning and harvesting crops.
Excellent communication skills, coupled with a ‘can do' attitude.
Must be physically fit and able to complete a high volume of manual handling such as regularly lift heavy weights / materials.
Willingness to learn new tasks and develop horticultural knowledge.
Self-driven with an ability to work independently.
Great time management skills.
NZ Drivers Licence.
