We also have experience and the opportunities to create a fellowship tailored to your needs by negotiation, with previous fellows focusing on paediatrics, airway, and oncoanaesthesia.
We are approved to deliver the ANZCA Chapter of Perioperative Medicine course.
In 2026, we are also offering the unique Te Manawa Taki Rural Generalist Fellowship - with 6 months in Waikato Hospital and a 6 month secondment to Gisborne Hospital.This position is for anaesthesia trainees in their final year prior to consultant practice, or for those in their first year following completion of anaesthetic training.
The position is accredited with ANZCA for the PF year.Position Requirements:The successful applicant will need to be able to be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
You can review registration pathways with New Zealand Medical Council: minimum clinical experience required for this position is completion of ANZCA advanced training, or equivalent e.g., ST6/7 or with CCT if from the U.K.
It is expected that the applicant has completed, and not deferred, all advanced training requirements prior to commencing the fellowship.It is a full-time (50hrs per week), 12 month fixed term position with duties split between the candidate's specialty interest area, other daytime elective and acute lists, as well as rostered non-clinical time.
Rostered after-hours duties consist of weekday evening shifts every 4-6 weeks.
There are no rostered night shifts or weekend shifts.About the Team/ServiceOur Anaesthetic Department has over 70 consultant anaesthetists and 30 doctors in training, comprising of SHOs, registrars and fellows.
We have a strong reputation for teaching and research, with an academic professor, a PhD student, a research scientist and three research nurses supporting our team.We are a large, vibrant, supportive department, and each year we look forward to welcoming new fellows into our family.About HamiltonWaikato Hospital is a major regional hospital in Hamilton and is a leading tertiary teaching hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts.
