As a DHB, we are responsible for planning, funding and providing health and disability services to a population of over 315,000 located South of the Waitaki River. Our catchment area encompasses Invercargill City, Queenstown - Lakes District, Gore, rural Southland, Clutha, Central Otago, Maniototo, Waitaki District and Dunedin City.
About the role
Are you a Registered Nurse with expert Mental Health nursing experience looking for a new permanent opportunity? We have an established District wide role for an experienced registered nurse who will provide nursing advice and leadership afterhours. Recent experience working within the mental health sector is essential along with a track record of demonstrating excellence in practice and proven leadership ability. The successful candidate will be expected to role model specialist mental health nursing care based on substantial theoretical knowledge in a mental health setting and work with nursing staff to continually develop practice. You will support inpatient units and crisis teams across the District by providing advice around managing challenging clients, assisting with bed management and supporting staff after hours.
About you
You will demonstrate sound professional judgement, strong leadership skills and a clear commitment to high quality care and the development of the Service. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate relevant experience and knowledge of patient safety, staff management, Trendcare and the ability to think outside the square. You will also be required to have up to date knowledge on the strategic documents that currently influence service improvements and be able to articulate this to the MHAID workforce.
Key accountabilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:
Clinical Leadership of the service: fostering a culture that strives for excellence in clinical service provision within allocated resources
Assisting with Staff Management and Recruitment: Developing a cohesive and productive team
Assisting with the Financial Management of the service
Quality and Risk Management of the service

You will be a Registered Nurse, with a current NZ Practicing certificate; with a relevant post graduate qualification, and proven success in leadership in a health related environment, which will complement your experience in, and knowledge of clinical quality, safety and best practice. A minimum of five years experience in working in the field of Mental Health is essential.
