Weta Digital is looking for an Accountant to join our Accounting team as a contractor, with the potential for a permanent role for the right candidate.
Weta Digital is one of the world's premier visual effects companies. Weta Digital established its reputation for cutting-edge visual effects with work on blockbusters like The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong and Avatar, and has six Visual Effects Oscars to its credit. The company has recently completed work on Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, Avengers: Endgame, and Gemini Man. We have a headcount of over 1500 crew members and are located across 12 sites in Wellington’s Eastern Suburbs.
As an Accountant, you will report to the Financial Controller (FC) and be working with two other experienced accountants on all financial accounting matters for the Weta Digital business. You will work closely with the FC and the wider Finance team to complete and improve the month-end accounting activities.
This is a unique opportunity to join a well established organisation in a role that has a good range of challenges with the scope to gain a broader range of involvement. Candidates will be a Chartered Accountant with experience in a commercial enterprise, with advanced excel skills.
Key responsibilities include - R&D accounting, revenue recognition, fixed assets, accruals, prepayments etc with potential to extend into other areas like Treasury and Hedging. The Accountant will assist team members with their workload, perform peer reviews and work with the team on various projects.
Our ideal applicant will have the following:
Commercial experience in mid-large enterprise
Experience in process improvement and developing new reports/systems/processes
Advanced excel skills
Experience with mid-large ERP and reporting systems
Commitment to exceptional customer service standards (internal and external)
Member of CAANZ (or international equivalent)
Undergraduate degree, preferably in Commerce or Accounting
Desirable experience:
Experience in a media, entertainment or technology industry
Experience in the design and implementation of new finance systems
Experience leading or making significant contributions to finance projects
Ideally Big 4 background
